Located within Bow in London, this terrace house is part of purpose-built terraced house group for artisan’s and joiner’s community and sits within the conservation area.
The clients required a sitting corner to the back with abundant natural light, and it is the most important space at the back of the new extension. Due to the linear shape of the plot and the existing building, the middle section of the house hardly receives natural light.
We proposed a layout with darker space in the middle and gradually towards brighter space on both front and back end. We imagine the sitting corner is articulated as an eroded ruin part of the property. In this way, it maximizes the light and view from inside the sitting corner, while creating a subtle and romantic folly in the peaceful garden.
