Sem studied at the Technical University Delft, where he earned his Bachelor Bouwkunde, his Dutch engineer title (Ir.), and a Master in Architecture.

Sem is a Senior Architectural Designer on several projects at O/I Design Studio. Sem is also responsible for the company's rendering workflow. Most recently, Sem was selected for the 2026 RIBAJ/SterlingOSB Zero ‘Powers of Ten’ Competition for his work on the ‘Monolithic Playhouse’.

Before joining O/I Design Studio, Sem worked as an architectural assistant at the Amsterdam-based firm Ponec de Winter. There he worked on high-end residential projects, affordable housing, and complex master planning and urban redevelopment schemes, including De Meesters in Veenendaal, the Fabriekskwartier in Tilburg, and the Quatrebras development in Badhoevedorp. Sem also served as an architecture guide at the Dudok Architectuur Centrum in Hilversum, where he led tours and taught architectural principles to students ranging from primary school to university level.
